چکیده

Pathogens and pollutants, such as pesticides, are potential stressors to all living organisms, including honey bees. Herbicides fungicides among the most prevalent pesticides in beehive matrices, their interaction with Nosema ceranae is not well understood. In this study, interactions between N. ceranae, herbicide glyphosate fungicide difenoconazole were studied under combined sequential overlapping exposure at a concentration of 0.1 µg/L food. experiment, newly emerged bees exposed from day 3 13 after emerging 23. 7 17. Infection by early adult life stages (a few hours post emergence) greatly affected survival elicited much higher mortality than was induced either alone or combination. Overlapping both caused individual exposure. Overlapping, but sequential, synergistically increased adverse effect on bee longevity. The combination had strong impact physiological markers nervous system, detoxification, antioxidant defenses social immunity

Effects of Nosema apis, N. ceranae, and coinfections on honey bee (Apis mellifera) learning and memory

Western honey bees (Apis mellifera) face an increasing number of challenges that in recent years have led to significant economic effects on apiculture, with attendant consequences for agriculture. Nosemosis is a fungal infection of honey bees caused by either Nosema apis or N. ceranae. The putative greater virulence of N. ceranae has spurred interest in understanding how it differs from N. api...

Gut Pathology and Responses to the Microsporidium Nosema ceranae in the Honey Bee Apis mellifera

The microsporidium Nosema ceranae is a newly prevalent parasite of the European honey bee (Apis mellifera). Although this parasite is presently spreading across the world into its novel host, the mechanisms by it which affects the bees and how bees respond are not well understood. We therefore performed an extensive characterization of the parasite effects at the molecular level by using geneti...

Honey Bee Apis mellifera Parasites in the Absence of Nosema ceranae Fungi and Varroa destructor Mites

Few areas of the world have western honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies that are free of invasive parasites Nosema ceranae (fungi) and Varroa destructor (mites). Particularly detrimental is V. destructor; in addition to feeding on host haemolymph, these mites are important vectors of several viruses that are further implicated as contributors to honey bee mortality around the world. Thus, the b...

Immune suppression in the honey bee (Apis mellifera) following infection by Nosema ceranae (Microsporidia).

Two microsporidia species have been shown to infect Apis mellifera, Nosema apis and Nosema ceranae. This work presents evidence that N. ceranae infection significantly suppresses the honey bee immune response, although this effect was not observed following infection with N. apis. Immune suppression would also increase susceptibility to other bee pathogens and senescence. Despite the importance...

Physiological and Behavioral Changes in Honey Bees (Apis mellifera) Induced by Nosema ceranae Infection

Persistent exposure to mite pests, poor nutrition, pesticides, and pathogens threaten honey bee survival. In healthy colonies, the interaction of the yolk precursor protein, vitellogenin (Vg), and endocrine factor, juvenile hormone (JH), functions as a pacemaker driving the sequence of behaviors that workers perform throughout their lives. Young bees perform nursing duties within the hive and h...
